 Hi.  My name is Alan and I will be travelling to NYC at the end of 
 September and staying in the Manhattan area.  I am looking to rent an 
 apartment for the duration of my stay and have contacted some owners.  I am 
 very close to signing a contract and forwarding my deposit to a person.  To 
 avoid fraud I have asked for some sort of confirmation and they have given 
 me their Lease License Reg Number.  I'm not going to give out their number 
 here, but I want to investigate if this is a valid number.  The person said 
 that "The License number can only be checked with the cops".  I have looked 
 at the NYPD website and have found nothing in regards of Lease Licenses. 
 Can anyone please direct me to where I can look up Lease Licenses or 
 inquire about them?
