"No ballplayer has ever been more popular with the fans or more feared
by his opponents than Babe Ruth. Although stories about his exploits-both
on and off the field-have become widely exaggerated, his statistics still
prove that the Babe was in a class by himself. - Earl Weaver
"Baseball's all-time greatest drawing card, George Herman )"Babe") Ruth
was the game's premier home run hitter-and one of the best pitchers, too.
Born in 1895, Babe Ruth was a rowdy kid from Baltimore, Maryland, who
broke into the majors at age 19 as a starting pitcher for the Boston Red
Sox, winning 65 games during the next three years...Ruth became a
full-time outfielder in 1920, when Boston sold him to the New York Yankees."
