OK, then get a client which does "list active" and _tells_ you which
groups are marked as moderated (the "m" flag in the active list).
Hopefully your server supports that, at least.
Together with ".moderated" naming of groups, that's 3 existing ways the
news hierarchy, server and client can cooperate to tell you that a group
is moderated. If your server/client/newsgroup hierarchy do not employ
any of them, well, too bad. No matter how many standards and guidelines
and upgrades to previous standards people write, nobody can force anyone
to use them. Complain to the people who don't use them.
