 Using your logic we can go further. 
  
 What percentage of automobile drivers have killed someone? How many 
 vehicle related deaths do they cause? 
  
 Anyhow, I'd take your bet if you were talking about "legal" firearms 
 owners. I think people with fishing rods are scary and they are more 
 likely to own an illegal firearm and hence would be more likely to have 
 shot someone. 
  
 Pay attention to the people doing the crime. Why concentrate on their 
 tools? Think about it. New tools of crime can be obtained from many 
 sources or made at home. For about $20 you can by a box of shotgun 
 shells and a smack of rat traps. You can make about 3 anti personnel 
 fragmentation mines evey ten minutes for a few dollars each. 
  
 Criminals can be removed from society  using our exisiting legal system 
 and gun registry dollars spent on social programs or policing could 
 prevent many more people from turning to crime.
