   Hi Nancy,

   >> Yes, it is. The amount of damage was absolutely incredible to me..
   >> Exterior walls I could somewhat understand, but when we heard about
   >> the interior wall, well that was insane to me.... I keep thinking
   >> about the walls going up the winding staircase to the upstairs.. and
   >> the staircase.. it was so beautiful. The walls in the new bathroom
   >> that Ron put in (not the bathroom we used for the Picnic) are bowed..
   >> that is such a drag. It's the second big bathroom downstairs, though
   >> the bathroom we used for the picnic also had a _lot_ of damage..
   >> Shower is now "indescribable" there :(

   > Was that (the second bath) the one just off the second kitchen...?

   Yeah.. :( That's the one.. :(

   > there was significant water damage to interior walls for both floors
   > below for 2/3 of the house... amazingly, it was just walls and ceilings,
   > and the floor in the back of the house on the second floor, didn't hurt
   > any of our stuff, genealogical paperwork, books, piano, etc., only the
   > stuff right in the fire that was burnt, and some stuff in the attic that
   > got smoke damage... But what really got to me was the amount of the
   > secondary water damage... and the huge repair bill... :) Water goes
   > everywhere, I guess... ;)

It makes sense given the force the firetrucks must use I would think.. though
thankfully we've never had a fire so I can only guess that was part of it ..
As you mention, the amount of water in itself would be insane.

   >> works somewhat, and the house is well insulated, but we've woken to a
   >> rather cold house a time or three lately... when the furnace decided

   >> That's a pain :( We've woken up a few times here in Ithaca with no
   >> heat, so our furnace was playing that same game I think.. :(

   > Just no consideration...! (G)

Yeah, no kidding Lol... After we moved in this house everything looked so
perfect, but as soon as winter hit our first year here, we had to have a lot
of work done on the furnace :(.. real bummer, because we were lead to believe
it was fine.. sure, we bought the house in the spring/early summer so we
didn't notice til the fall .. Anyway, now the fellow who works on it let us
know that the problem with the heat shutting off is a switch that needs to be
replaced.. but it's a major job because this house doesn't have turnoffs for
the water in the basement. We'll have to drain the system, then install
turnoffs, and get the switch which is also costly .. so we figure when it goes
off, we'll turn it back on

   >> snow... which means we'll have to get to Windsor at least once this
   >> week to shovel.. Matt will help Ron so that's something..

   > How much did you get...? We got most of ours during the day on
   > Wednesday, all told maybe close to a foot, maybe only about 8 inches...
   > I was out in it, as I had an appointment midday... not too bad, but not
   > a lot of fun, either... :)

We also got a little over 8".. not so bad, but of course I don't do the
   shoveling..

   >> I've been tracking temps and weather in Massena, too... I think they
   >> probably think they ARE at the north pole... sub-zero temps for highs,
   >> wind chills much lower... Glad we don't live there... although,
   >> probably we'd get used to that, too...

   >> haha.. I'd rather not have to get used to it :) :)

   > I hear you... But one does toughen to whatever one is regularly
   > exposed to, usually, anyway... ;)

Yes, that's true. When we moved from NY to KY, I remember laughing when
people would complain about the cold in Louisville I didn't get "chilled"
for at least 2 years after the move. Same thing with my allergies.. the first
year, nothing bothered me down there haha.. then it hit :( Ragweed,
GoldenRod.. the plants in KY looked just a little different than what we'd had
in NY, so once my body "noticed" their allergens, I was sunk

   >> Take care and stay warm!

   > Thanks... and you stay warm, too...! :)

Lots of quilts on the bed needless to say.. plus Indy and Sophie keeping us
   warm Lol

   Take care,
   Janis
