-=> Quoting Mike Roberts to Nancy Backus on 09-21-12 09:19 <=-               MR> I know what You mean. I had to drive down to Elmira after being east        MR> of Rochester. Went down 14 on some beautiful country roads, but it was        MR> raining much of the time. I kept running into areas, where I got into        MR> the Hills down south, that were flooding pretty good and state police        MR> kept rerouting us. Nothing catastrophic, but it was raining pretty        MR> good Tuesday.              Got some extra sight-seeing in along the way, eh...? :) What you could       see through the drops, anyway... :)               NB>> We have a red maple in our backyard that seems to always turn early...        NB>> it leafs out early in the spring, too, so I guess that makes sense.         NB>> :) The beech trees always drop their yellow leaves early, too... and        NB>> they've been dropping for about a month now, I think...!        MR>         MR> I had heard it may happen earlier this year due to the warm and dry        MR> weather. The fliers are already beautiful, but from what I saw down in        MR> the southern tier Tuesday, It will be another 3 weeks at least, to        MR> peak.               I don't think it's all that early for the early leaves to be turning. It       just always seems too early to me, every year... and then I realize we       really are just about to fall after all... :)               NB>> I can never decide whether my favorite is spring or fall... :)                MR> I only choose fall, beside it's beauty, for the fact it is generally        MR> still warm during the day, and it may cool down in the evening, which        MR> I don't mind after all summer with that rotten fan in the window. Yet        MR> the days are not humid, though they can be warm. On those humid days,        MR> it still is in the 60's or low 70's, so it is tolerable. And with the        MR> weather change, I don't mind it getting dark a bit earlier. Though I        MR> do not like getting up when it is dark, which is happening already..        MR> But You are right, who could hate the beautiful Spring, especially        MR> after the long winter?              They both are temperate seasons, and a relief after the extremes of       winter and summer... :) And both beautiful, each in its own way,       whether the riotous colors of the spring flowers or the riotous colors       of the turning leaves... :)              As for getting up in the dark... I don't like that either... which is       why I argue for standard time to be all year round rather than having to       deal with Daylight Stealing Time... I keep hearing proposals to have       DST all year round, but I'd MUCH prefer Standard Time year round       instead. We'll need to use lights at one end of the day or the other       anyway, and I need the natural light to get moving in the morning. |
