   Hi Nancy,

On Mon 2012-Jan-02 23:01, Nancy Backus (1:261/1381) wrote to Richard Webb:

RW> This is why I'm not willing to write off those who posit that we're
RW> changing things more rapidly than in the past quite yet.

NB> And it's why I'm not willing to just accept their postulations at
   NB> face value...

Indeed, what sways me most is the things they're doing with
growth rings on trees, core samples of arctic ice, peat
bogs, etc. Especially those who submit their work to peer
   review (see elsewhere this thread.)
I'm stioll not sure it's as drastic as they claim, but
there's something there But now the political ideologues are involved, so we'll get a whole
RW> lot of heat, but not much light shed I'm sure.

NB> Politics is like that... ;(

YEah I know, and any time it gets involved with something
such as science, where things can be measured, quantified
and conclusions drawn then the politicians first find
somebody with credentials unrelated to what's under
discussion and try to paint him/her as some sort of great
expert. This is where the peer review comes in. Note my
comments to Mark about why I always push a client to spend
the money for mastering even if we all think we've got
exactly what we want, and our listening tests seem to bear
that out. Good mastering folks have, chances are, better
   listening environments, better equipment, etc.

RW> We are living that ancient Chinese curse. We indeed live in
    RW> interesting times.

NB> I suspect there are no truly uninteresting times... ;)

True enough, just a bit more-so these days.

NB> ... I predict that today will be remembered until tomorrow!
     YEp, that sounds familiar.

   Regards,
              Richard
