    RW> errands at least.

NB> Yeah, that was probably a bit cool to try to grill... and if the
NB> wind picked up any more it might have been a bit raw...

YEah and I really don't like to have to worry about an open
flame getting taken where I don't want it while the charcoal burns down to
cook on it. If I've got to stand over it and
watch it due to high winds I'd rather not.

RW> That's alright, that guy sells those steaks off a truck will find me
RW> with a partial box or one he will break up just to sell the last of a

RW> shouldn't have done it that time, but the meat supply was rather low.

NB> Sounds like you got a reasonable deal after all, though.

Yep, he almost got the bum's rush too. MOst places I've
lived I've posted it letting door to door sales type folks
know that this is not a prospect, this is a get outa here
you're trespassing zone. Haven't done that yet here, dead
end street, small town, we don't get many.
We'd just brought doggy home from the vet, Kathy wasn't
feeling good, and while I'm getting her set up with a
breathing treatment etc. there's this timid tap on the door, I go out, there's
this dude, and he could tell by the phone
of voice he needed to talk real fast. HE talked fast ,g>.

RW> Had I friends that did such a thing around here I'd have
RW> bought a deer tag and let a buddy shoot another one for me
RW> and split it with him, that would have put plenty of meat
RW> for the freezer by for the winter.

NB> Never thought of doing that. I had a friend once whose husband
NB> hunted, and since most of the family didn't care much for venison,
NB> she gifted me with various cuts every so often.
I like shooting them myself if I've got a stand, but I don't know the country,
etc. around here well enough, or have
buddies that i can go with, but I've done that a coupkle
times when I wanted venison for the freezer but didn't have
time or inclination to go, buy the tag, let a buddy of mine
shoot mine one day his another, split the meat with him.

NB>> They tell us that we'll be getting warmer (into the 40's) temps by
NB>> the beginning of next week... we shall see. As it's December, this
NB>> gradual descent into winter is to be expected, of course... ;)

RW> YEah I'm expecting one more good one before Christmas.

NB> I kinda like having a nice coating of snow for Christmas... maybe
NB> an inch or so... lacy trees and bushes, elegantly dressed for the
   NB> day...

IT doesn't really matter to me, I can decorate my mind for
the holidays with 70 degrees and blue skies just fine .

Still remember hanging out at my cousin's in southern
California one year on Christmas day. I'm sitting in this
patio swing, shorts on, cold can of beer in my hand, he's
got shorts and sandals on and he says "but don't you miss
being back home at Christmas, that world of white outside
   and ... "

REmember he grew up an Iowa boy too. I look at him and ask
"If you msis it so bad why are you here?"

RW> I'm thinking it'll hold off a few days, which I'd sure appreciate.
RW> A little rain that will just freeze after dark isnt' my idea of fun
RW> Tuesday as we need to go into the city for a Christmas dinner and
RW> meeting, and i"d rather not be on the roads when roads are at that
RW> just frozen stage where crews might not have put down the chemical.
RW> A couple of nights like that last week, a bit cool but dry, and
RW> that's fine with me right now.

NB> Freezing rain surfaces aren't any fun at all. Snow is better than
NB> that to drive on. And dry is better yet. :)

YEah, that's true for walking too, especially for Kathy.
But folks around here aren't used to thinking in terms of
those "tweener" conditions as easily, which is why when it
gets like that I like my vehicle parked, preferrably in my
driveway, off the street where if they hit it it's their
   fault.
Otherwise we never park the vehicle in the driveway because
it's easier for Kathy to get to parked in front of the
   house.

RW> They've already got their first frozen stuff on the ground
RW> in eastern Iowa where i grew up, Kathy's daughter fell on
RW> the ice at the car wash/quicky lube where she works
RW> Thursday. (And they wonder why I don't want to live there).

   NB> Ice isn't my cuppa, either... :)

NOpe, really have a strong dislike of it. I drove a
newspaper customer bats enough after one bad winter fighting his icy sidewalk
and steps on the top of a hill to where
before the next winter he decided he'd rather buy his at the store. Making
that dime a day walking along the cliff top
which was his front yard on the ice to deliver his newspaper wasn't worth the
agro to me. I seriously detest ice
underfoot. One of the reasons I moved south.

NB> Last forecast I saw for here has the temps getting into the 50's by
NB> the end of the week... with rain... Just a little warm for
   NB> mid-December, I'd say... :/

YEp, I'd say so. We're about normal for this time of year
so far, maybe even in the precipitation department. I'd
rather we get it gradually though isntead of the way we
caught up on our moisture last spring around here. I'm sure the folks in that
Alabama corridor would rather get it
   gradually too.

   Regards,
              Richard
