GP> A lot of homeowners, when they had to rebuild, had to build higher
GP> afterwards. A few built up higher than required...lol.

YEp, and in one case, NIota Illinois, on the MIssissippi
river, they moved the town!!! Niota, and its neighbor to
the north POntoosac (spelling) were both originally
communities of commercial fishermen, other folks who made
their living on the water, hunters trappers and the like.
Both have become essentially bedroom communities for nearby
larger cities in recent times however.
I worked ham radio with the '01 flood, but it was '93 which
forced them to move the whole town.

GP> For y'all, this was probably just a fluke. I heard Weather Channel
GP> talking about how it was turning out to be a "perfect storm" when
GP> the hurricane was headed y'alls way, due to two or three
GP> convergences. You probably would have been better off if the storm
GP> had come in more directly and a little stronger... stronger
GP> hurricanes pack a punch with wind, but when they weaken to tropical
GP> storms they just dump all that water they collected at once.

That's usually true it seems, saw that in NEw ORleans.

Thing is I'm wondering what Nate's gonna do as he bounces
off the Yucatan peninsula. I'm hoping he just trucks inland across MExico
instead of comes back out into the gulf,
gathers strength and plays hurricane billiards before
strikins the U.S> gulf coast somewhere. I've seen 'em do
   that one too.
IF he does and plays eight ball bank you guys'll be in for
   it GAry.

   Regards,
    Richard
