|    WWIVToss Setup progress    |

Hello all,              Just a note about my slow progress on making a WWIVToss Setup program.              I had a big roadblock for a while with READING in AREAS.DAT and displaying it       properly because of data alignment issues between DOS and Linux (i.e. ints on       DOS are 16-bits only whereas they are 32-bit on Linux).              To put this in perspective, my first efforts were directed at READING in the       WWIVToss DATA files, wwivtoss.dat and areas.dat. My next step was to display       their contents as they would be interpreted by WWIVToss. With a hint about       using #pragma pack(push, 1) from Rushfan, I was able to display the WWIVToss       config file data easily (wwivtoss.dat).              I was floundering for a while with reading in areas.dat and displaying its       contents properly until I revisited the data structures for arearec AND       netnode! These data structures both contained INTs. After defining the ints as       shorts, things went smoothly from there and I am able to display data from       areas.dat correctly now.              My next steps will be to add an interface to EDIT/ADD values and write the new       configuration data files out to disk.              p.s. My work is currently on Linux, but I will try to structure the code so it       can easily be ported back to DOS (Borland TCC).              --- WWIVToss v.1.50         * Origin: Aliens' Alcove2: telnet://aliens.free.net.ph (3:633/408.0)    |
