|    Backup software    |

MM> Hello everybody!               MM> I am wondering what would be the best backup software to        MM> use for my pc?               I have Norton Ghost, both an old version, 2003 vintage and a        newer version. The 2003 version only works from a dos prompt,        and that means dos, not a dos prompt in windows. OTOH, it will        run from dos disks using Win 98 dos, which is readily        available. It doesn't recognize sata drives, but it does        everything else exceptionally well, including reading HD that        can't be read by windows or dos directly.               The later version, Ghost32, is a 32 bit version that works from        windows. It won't back up the partition I boot from, but does        all the rest quite well. It will back up Sata disks.               Winimage does back up hard drives, in the paid professional        version. It's so good I am going to upgrade to the pro version,        but I am experimenting with systems which is what I find it        great at. Don't know how good it would be as a regular backup        source, though it can do a self installing backup so you can put        the backup directly to the disk without the original program to        boot up. OTOH, it makes images, not partial backups.               I also use Macrium Reflect, which has the advantage of being        free, and does it all.               There is also Clonezilla, which is also free, and it is a linux        based clone of Ghost, which can boot and run from a flash drive.        I have it but have never used it.               I just backup the entire HD to an image. Later copies of Ghost        do incremental backup, so you do one then as it goes it just        backs up the changes.               If I just want to back up subdirectories or versions of files,        or such I use Ztree and do them by type or directory. All my        Fido subdirectory, or all my .jpg files, etc.               All the ones I tried worked well.              BOB KLAHN bob.klahn@sev.org http://home.toltbbs.com/bobklahn              ...
