   Message 757 of 3,071
   Ed Vance to JEAN PARROT
   Details.
   27 Oct 12 14:27:00

JP> PQ> In Thunderbird I always check the _source_ of unknowns first, Jean.
JP> PQ> [Ctrl]+U will view them for you in plain text, without activating
JP> PQ> anything harmful (it works also in Firefox, although by the time you do
JP> PQ> that it's already too late in FF). I never use the viewing 'panel' or
   JP> PQ> whatever it's called in TB.

JP>.Your advice is really appreciated. You might have noticed that I was not
   bor
JP>yesterday and I do use the PC cautiously. In Gmail, there is a click that
   one
JP>can do and it shows all the details of the sender's data and the "path" that
JP>was followed to my mail box. A great lot of this information is above me; I
   c
JP>somehow decipher a bit of it and if there is text there that I do not
   JP>recognize, I delete it subito-presto.

   Jean,

As I told Paul, I too sometimes look at the source in email messages.

I looked at one the other day and noticed that ALL of the .GIF files in
that message that were encoded in Base64 ALL started out with the same
   eight characters "R01GOD1h" .

I looked at some .GIF files on my hard drive and they all started with
the same seven characters "GIF89a&" .

I was surprised to see "GOD" in the start of the .GIF files that had
   been encoded in the email.

   Have You ever noticed that?

JP>.I played around this mentioned mail as I was 100% protected with a very
   rece
JP>clone. No bad action has manifested itself yet ! The Ctrl-U is a TB
   function,
JP>in Gmail it is "Show Original", all of the message meta-data is shown then.
   I
JP>will try and study this more deeply when I get back to civilization, next
   wee

I have to admit that both my 1TB and 640GB external USB drives I use for
storing backups on are nearly full and I couldn't make my last TIH
backup without deleting some of the older backups on it to make room for
   the new one.

I still like keeping older backups for a while in case the latest one
BURPED on me if I had to use it to Restore my data on the computer(s).

It was either Fred Langa or Leo Notenboom I read saying they made a
backup or clone after they removed the junk off of the HD of a newly
purchased computer, and they kept that one for safe keeping if needed.

They would make backups regularly, but at 12 month intervals they
would also put a copy of that backup with the first one they made for
   the computer.

   JP>.Light snow this morn.

Today the WX forecast says the high will be 58F here, tomorrow the high
will be 85F, then it will go back down to normal autumn weather.

Have a safe trip back home. See Ya!
