Hi! Matt,              On Mon, 01 Oct 12, you wrote to me:               MM> I want to use old bbs software, but I still want to use the latest        MM> computing hardware.              That's what I do here. Two year old Dell dual-core hardware running Ububtu       10.04 (still) LTS, with multiple VirtualBox (vBox) PCs: a mix of various OSs,       two of which are Win98SE. One of those vBoxes is my Fidonet node which I am       writing this on from a RDP session out of a Terminal Server Client box on my       wife's Ubuntu PC. (She runs two XP-Home vBoxes as well on hers BTW.)              So. Were you still interested in running Win98SE? With the best MS-DOS ever       released and not some crappy M$ emulation out of a so-called advanced       Windows. Who cares if you can't run the latest gee-whiz apps in it! It runs       Fido just great, and has done since Feb 2011.              If you're wanting to marry-up VirtualBox + Win98SE, then there's some handy       notes that I took when I was researching the idea for myself to be found at:       _http://tinyurl.com/9x39v8d_ (look for the Win*.pdf files on Page2). It's       best to install Win98 by forcing ACPI support, and, I heartily recommend the       SciTech Display Doctor video driver. Both of my vBoxes are running       1024x768x24-bit desktops.              If I can help then let me know.              Cheers,       Paul.              ... At the prompt, remove disk, spit on it, then retry.       --- Paul's Win98SE VirtualBox        * Origin: Quinn's Post - Maryborough, Queensland, OZ (3:640/384)    |
