|    WIN XP question    |
|    11 Jul 12 19:11:44    |
Howdy folks!              I've got a test system that for research purposes has a functional Fido system       on it that I don't use for anything but test. Up until now it has completely       been OK using XP3, latest everything update up to IE8, and in my case, it has       fully functional current Panda full protection that has never been a problem.        It is never used for anything but this stuff although with Panda every now and       then it has cleaned up a nasty cookie or so. It is only set up for manual       updates for Windows generically. The only auto updates on it are from Panda       stuff. I normally manually check for any Microsoft updates in with the Second       Tuesday critical stuff.              Poof! Today it has an error saying it cannot write to a given memory address       and jams the IE8 connection to the M/S update site! I've tried everything       from the M/S Fix Help site to complete Panda scan, reboots;whatever. No luck       but the box is still apparently fully functional. The strangest thing about       all this is that it seems to think my 'correct' IE8 product is curiously       running under VISTA now!              Duhhhhhh .. Is this a fault in the update game or somehow is this the end of       support for WIN XP which I thought wasn't due per what was published about all       this until the end of this year? My whole master rack mounted and secure IP       stuff is through Suddenlink Cable and vastly stable on a heavy secure switched       and firewalled operation with OS/2 operations that are still VERY free of all       this. The SMB system that has this on it is also a major CATA plug in hard       drive system which I can run a pile full of other OS/2 stuff as well and       NOTHING on it has any problems, even with Panda which still is fully       functional for OS/2 under 'special' operations that can be had with careful       support from the Panda treasure of a crew. That also which exists for OS/2       under CLAM AV that finds nothing wrong with the system and motherboard and so       on.              Thoughts?              Mike Luther @ NC117 here.                     ---        * Origin: BV HUB CLL(979)696-3600 (1:117/100)    |
