   In 1993 when I was studying what I wanted in my first 486 "Compatiable"   
   computer, I decided that I wanted 8MB of SIMM RAM.   
      
   A friend of a friend told me that wouldn't work because I had to have   
   all four SIMMs the same, so I would either have to put four 1MB SIMMs in   
   or put four 4MB SIMMs.   
      
   I decided to get 4 4MB sticks for 16MB total RAM.   
      
   The 486 computer was delivered in early 1994 and I figured the RAM cost   
   me $540.00US.   
      
   The XP computer I have came with 1GB of DDR memory split between 2 500MB   
   sticks.   
      
   I added 2 1GB DDR sticks to it and now run 3GB of DDR memory.   
      
   So You may be able to mix them up and they will work.
