   Hi Jean,

HG> This morning I have been fighting with T-bird. The swedish ham bulletin
HG> arrives as an attached .pdf file, ....

JP> I do not think that this ia a TB problem. You need to as per my
JP> title, set the default programme for any one file type. Find the
JP> Control Panel -> Default Program -> god down the list to .pdf ->
JP> upper right to change and follow the instructions. Kid's play !

Tnx for the advice, I'll see what I can do about it, but anyway I'm
opposed to have to download a 1Mb .pdf file, only to be able to extract
an 8 - 9 kb text file, whether the extraction is done locally or at ISP.

JP> I use TB for old time sake and to read you. It has been down, I mean
JP> not used much lately, the old stand-by are quiet.

I have used mail programs to gather ham bulletins from various sources,
to be read/downloaded by the ham fraternity in neighbouring countries,
via my BBS (HAM-BOX). Now I receive some of them via Fidonet also.

JP> The best protection, as Alan once mentioned, is the interface
JP> between the KB and the chair. I use here, Windows Defender, but
JP> mostly very careful web searches. Never had a virus nor a warning of
   JP> any strange behaviour.

Neither have I had any virus attacks, even though the BBS is on 24/365,
but it runs under OS/2, not Windows.

In my oldest laptop (T23), Avira is installed, and it disables autorun.
That caused me a problem when I wanted to upgrade the XPp to SP3, so I
had to start the file manually. After several hours the upgrade was OK,
but I had to leave the machine on when I went out for the 2hr exercise.

Usually I never leave anything on (except the fridge), when I leave the
   apartment.

JP> Spring is about here, no frost predicted for the week, yeah !

Yeah, it's around the corner here. The boat show in Stockholm has opened
and for us here, that means that the spring is here.

We haven't had frost now for several nights, but the night sun/mon
brought sleet, that melted quite quickly.

   Have a good night,

   Holger
