Holger,              HG>I hardly ever look at QRZ.COM.              HG>EV> I just looked and see it only gives the Birth Year.       HG>EV> I was born in December.               They used to have that info, but not anymore. I have the callsign       database door on the BBS (which was done by the late Dave Perry (W4KGU,       SK)), and it had a data field for the birthdate. While it's still there,       the field is now constantly blank.               What is more important though are 2 things many ham radio operators       usually overlook:              1) The date when their ham radio license expires. I asked on a ham radio       net awhile back the question of "Without looking at your license, do you       know when it expires??". 95% of the respondents said "NO".              2) In the U.S.A., Part 97.23 of the FCC Rules REQUIRES hams to keep       their mailing address with the FCC current...because if mail sent to       them from the FCC is returned as undeliverable, ones license can be       suspended or revoked.               One can modify their license at any time during its term (such for a       mailing address change or name change), but they can only renew it       within 90 days before to 2 years after expiration. After it has been       expired more than 2 years, they lose their license, callsign, and       privileges.               When I've had to make changes to my license, I've gone to the FCC ULS       website. And, I understand that, apparently now, the FCC is trying to       get it to where you can print a copy of your license online...instead of       having the FCC mail it to you. But, that might make to where Part 97.23       of the FCC Rules, that I referenced above, as meaningless...unless only       the INITIAL LICENSE was mailed. I think that it'd be the actual license,       and not just the Reference Copy, which isn't valid for operation, but is       just proof that one is licensed...used at a license exam session to       obtain exam credit for a license exam upgrade.              HG> * MR/2 2.30 * Real hackers don't use modems... They whistle instead!               I used to do that to see if I could connect to my dial-up BBS or fax       line. |
