   Ed,

EV>He helped us young ones to learn how to handle Message Traffic and even
EV>later on had a different Novice as Net Control for each day.
EV>I was the Net Control Station for one day each week.

I had considering learning Formal Written Traffic, but screwed things
up with a program, and got chewed out for it. They have gotten so rigid
that they seemingly won't make allowances for those trying to learn the
ropes. I know how to do a Radiogram, but I don't think I'm going to
pursue that as part of the hobby. I do more than enough with at least 1
net a night, then license exam sessions twice a month.

EV>I just never used UTC if hardly ever at all after I left the Service.
EV>Local Time is what I've always been confortable with and what works for
EV>You being in a Time Zone very close to UTC doesn't work for me.

It was a bear when I was setting up the Echolink Nets page...which
time should I use?? I modified it to show each U.S. Time zone
equivalent, plus UTC Time. Then, I added a disclaimer for areas like
Arizona (the smart ones, who stay on standard time year round), that the
net time is different when Daylight Savings Time is in effect). Most of
the nets keep the same time year round...and I run 2 Echolink and 2
   D-Star Nets a week.

EV> HG> When digital arm watches became available I am using one set to
EV> HG> 24h display. All my clocks, except a couple of oldies are
   EV> HG> running 24h digital.

EV> HG> No more AM or PM here.

EV>I'm confortable with either way of reading the time.

I have an MFJ 24 hour clock in the shack, that's set to UTC. I tried
to run the BBS with that once, but it caused havoc with the netmail
connects. So, it was back to local time.

I've heard talk that they were going to change the Daylight Savings
Time again...either make it year round, or something else. I wish they'd
decide on one format, and leave it that way. For that matter, the times
of year that the U.S. may be on DST, other parts of the world are not.
Plus, UTC time is used by both ham radio operators in net logs, and with
weather forecast model data, and other products (in Z (Zulu) time).
