|    Win XP3 Question    |
|    05 Jan 15 16:36:18    |
Howdy!              I have one old WIN XP Professional FP3 everything latest. Yes, is not       supported supposedly any longer but in this case it is used only for some       research on MajicJack; nothing else although it is 'populated' with even a       Fido 'user' profile from long, long ago that still works but is never used,       nor at all in the NodeList. Because I have the Panda protection and that       actually still is available on very private special operations for OS/2, I for       several years have used the 'normal' Panda 2014 up to date Windows protection       which recently moved from 2014 version to their 2015 version. The somewhat       'agreed' move to update the WIN XP3 box to the 2015 version was planned for in       January of 2015. My paid for support is for all the way up in the 2015       operations. Everything was working wonderful all the way through up until, of       all things, January 1, 2015.              As well, as I suspect the folks here can understand for a deal like this,I do       **NOT** use the automatic support option for the WIN XP research unit. I make       each update on a normal daily or so basis by hand so I can be absolutely sure       things are 'normal' on this unit. Then POOF! Here we are on January 1, 2015.              While I was away from the whole site here for several hours for field work       when I got back to the site, the whole massive total industrial EMP pulse       protected monster relay rack operations for everything here was all scrambled       up! There had been a massive power failure and even though I have massive APC       complete smart UPS support for the entire system that will keep it up for a       long time, this power collapse in this part of College Station ran down the       UPS limit and all four of the industrial relay rack operations, plus the       little WIN XP3 box was fouled up.              OK, did a reboot for all of the units with normal detailed research for a       proper restart for all the networking and operations, plus complete scan for       malware and virus checking showed nothing wrong there. However, strangely, the       WIN XP3 test unit, though it appeared to boot OK and the standard screen was       fine, would not start anything of the MajicJack test operation, nor would       ANYTHING load or work for the Panda stuff!              In these cases, there was a displayed Win error on screen that told of a       forbidden access to these due to a restricted access error for those 'files' I       have never seen before. I could connect to the Internet just fine and IE8 was       working fine, it seemed for a number of other things I tested. I could       contact MajicJack and their very capable tech support got me to accept an       update test for their software which apparently went through the whole system       just fine, but the MJ unit refused to load! Their tests with me brought back       a thought that the MJ unit was at this point defective and they are sending me       a replacement. Not here yet but I'm doing more research. Absolutely NOTHING       I could do would even let me operationally access Panda. However in that the       new 2015 product was approved, the thought was to just go ahead and update to       it. OK, download, but it would never finish the install! Strange same WIN       error that WIN is forbidden to access this whatever!              OK .. I'm an OS/2 somewhat expert, but for SERIOUS purposes dating back to the       1980's era, essentially forbidden by 'agreement' to ever normally use ANY       Windowa product. We won't go there in this, please. However, suddenly, after       the Panda work, which included a complete removal of all the Panda previous       stuff with the tools and after that total failure to finish the 2015 code,       POOF! The MajicJack unit and operational code was working again! Hmmmmm.              OK I did a full complete Defrag and Windows 'normal' disk cleanup on the hard       drive and it found NOTHING wrong in the 'cleanup' for bad disk spots. But       after that, suddenly, no matter what I do, WIN XP3 always says on bootup that       there is something wrong with a hard disk operation and insists on going       through a CHKDSK, after which a totally normal full open desktop screen shows       up. But still keeps telling over and over again that Windows cannot permit       access to the Panda executables to finish the install or any other service.        Nor are the icons for it every even produced in to the desktop screen.              Thoughts? In OS/2 I could handle all of this but in Windows, growl. Sure I       realize that OS/2 with a power off shutdown automatically goes through a       CHKDSK that can produce FOUND0, FOUND1; Whaever. But what ought I do here to       see what has happened to this box that also has a Fido system on it for       backwards research if need for Fido here?              Thanks!              Mike Luther as N117C at 1:117/100                     ---        * Origin: BV HUB CLL(979)696-3600 (1:117/100)    |
