   Yes, XP stood on the barricades quite some time. It was in fact so good   
   that nobody really wanted to upgrade but M$ was running out of cash so   
   they had to come up with something new. That was Vista, a thing nobody   
   did love.   
      
   So the follow-up was W8 that was even more impopular than Vista.

   Well, 98 was better than 95 and W2000 started the new trend that XP   
   successfully continued.

   Yes, and also because it's dominating the operative system market.   
   There's very little interest shown for OS/2, Linux and Mac op'sysen.
