   If it's a Macbook Pro then it's got an Intel processor (and is 2006 or later);   
   earlier Apple laptops were named Powerbooks (for the higher-end models) or   
   iBooks (for the consumer models).   
      
   However, she may be running older software (Microsoft Office 2004 for instance   
   or older versions of Quicken, among others) that were designed for pre-2006   
   PowerPC Macs but could still run on Intel models running Mac OS X up to   
   version 10.6; support for those older software versions was dropped with   
   version 10.7 and later (the current version is 10.9).
