   MS un-kills MSSE for XP

   Hi, Bob...

BK> Back in the "old days" we used to talk about planned
BK> obsolescense, in automobiles. I never believed they could plan
BK> for cars to start dying after any particular time, but the
   BK> certainly can with software.

It's part of the warranty...it's guaranteed to start wearing out the
moment you drive it off the lot.

BK> I'm with you. First because Win 8 is too expensive to buy as an
BK> upgrade from something that does the job quite well, and second,
BK> because upgrading software is going to be expensive also.

The "tablets" systems are KILLING Microsoft financially. Yet, I've
heard very few positive comments about Windows 8 and up. The only reason
they kept an XP Virtual Mode in Windows 7 was to try to get the current
   XP folks to upgrade.

BK> It's not just the cost of the software, but all too often the
BK> hardware has to be upgraded also. IOW, you buy a new computer.
BK> Mine is from 2002 and it still does the job. Why buy a new one?
BK> It's not like I'm watching HD movies on the net, nor playing
   BK> high end games.

Exactly. And, why should you discard perfectly good working hardware
and software?? It makes as much sense as tits on a boar hog.

As for games, I have more than plenty to keep me occupied here on the
BBS. For that matter, I don't even mess with games on Facebook. I have a
web browser extension called "Fluff Busting Purity" that BLOCKS the
display of all the ads, game requests, etc. Without it, you have to "dig
to find the needle in the haystack" for the message(s) you're looking
   for.

BK> And it's not just a fixed income, which I am on, but also way
BK> too many people have low incomes that don't allow for
BK> unnecessary spending to replace equipment that works quite well.
BK> Esp in a time of high unemployment and falling incomes we don['t
BK> need one more unnecessary expense.

As Bill Clinton's campaign slogan noted "It's the economy, stupid!".
Microsoft has their head so far up their proverbial anal orifice in
regards to people having money...that they can see their throat. Maybe
that's why their eyes are brown.

BK> I would like to know, if MS knew there were security flaws in
BK> XP, which they had to in order to eliminate them in Win 7 or Win
BK> 8, then why not eliminate them in Win XP? Not eliminating them
BK> should make then liable for the costs of those security flaws.

I use Opera as my default web browser, and use Internut Exploder
(typos intended) for Windows Update. After the final security update for
XP in April, 2014, it'll be good to just turn that feature off. As long
as I'm careful as to what websites I visit, plus keeping my anti-virus,
anti-spyware, and firewall updated, I should be OK.

BK>... Windows: The world's 1st commercially successful virus.

     How about the tagling below??
