In a message on Monday 07-17-16 Paul Quinn said to Holger Granholm:

   Good evening Paul,

HG> Things like that happen when you get older. OTOH, I didn't see any
HG> advice in your mail, how to do what I wanted to achieve ;o(

PQ> Yeah, I know. I've been fretting about that for the last couple of
PQ> days. I'm glad you replied. I was really bereft of the specifics
PQ> of what you struggled with but am glad you took my jibes in good
   PQ> humour.

Well, I'm not so easily angered, especially not when I'm struggling with
   things new to me.

HG> Hey, just came to think of it, maybe the Windows e-mail program is
HG> on the laptop I got for xmas. After all he used it in his job.

PQ> Ah, not a good idea. The Outlook program is another MS product with
PQ> a big target on its back for hackers and their ilk.

Maybe I should try Gmail, but I really don't like that idea either.
I have a feeling that Google (Gmail), plays in the same league as M$.

OTOH, my GS created a Gmail address for me, because he uses that, but
when I tried to get into it, I didn't succed. The reason was that one
character in the password was wrong. I haven't tried since, though I
got the correct chr from my GS.

The chr was a capital one, but I had tred with a lower case letter.
Gmail is case sensitive, you know.

PQ> Ahmm, Thunderbird is just another Windows program. It has direct
PQ> access to & from the Windows "clipboard". Anything that you can get
PQ> -to- the Windows clipboard usually can be pasted into a Thunderbird
   PQ> email window.

I know about cut-and-paste, my problem was (is) to get the wanted text
displayed. Even that had been unnecessary, because the wanted text was
already on that other media. I just wanted it inserted into the e-mail.

It's easy as a pie, doing it with this QWK program, with the QEdit or
Semware Editor. Just Ctrl-KR (read) f:\dir\file.txt, and voil  it's here

PQ> Either using the 'Edit' menu option in a text-drafting window or by
PQ> simply right-clicking the mouse on its window will work.

Well yes, there is an edit command in the T-bird menu, but I didn't
   become successful with that either.

   PQ> How about a demonstration? This node's Sunday afternoon's
PQ> maintenance run produced this echo report for my main node in a
   PQ> _netmail_ (partial extract only)...

   PQ> -----8<-----C-U-T--H-E-R-E----->8-----
   PQ> 3:640/384.0 Statistics since: 2-Feb-12

   PQ> Sent netmails: 295/3227 KB
   PQ> Received netmails: 0/186 KB
   PQ> Sent echomails: 10780/17 MB
   PQ> Received echomails: 463341/827 MB
   PQ> Dupes: 5362
   PQ> -----8<-----C-U-T--H-E-R-E----->8-----

Easy as a pie in this QWK editor, but apparently I have to first show it
   before I can cut-and-paste it into T-bird.

I just wish that I could replace the T-bird editor, with for example,
The Semware Editor, that is available in two Windows versions, and can
be configured to use WordStar, Borland, Word Perfect, etc. commands.

PQ> Now. What was it you were trying to do again? ;)

As I wrote, I'm newbie trying to learn how to do things in Thunderbird.
Consequently, I appreciate all the help I can get.

   Have a nice evening,

   Holger
