The jury is still out on that, but what the heck. It's raining here, which
dropped us out of the 35-37C heat wave we've had.

If done right, we were able to squeeze 400+ out of that modem. Whoopie! (-:

RN> ............ One had to place "=X" after the filename one was

HG> I don't recall having such problems. I finally stuck with Telix as
HG> modem and I still miss it. It was very clever in that it named the
HG> QWK-packets with a new suffix if there were earlier packets from
HG> the same host B4. PCBoard doesn't do that :o(

That's probably because you didn't begin with a very rudimentary terminal
program like the one I began with. Then along came SmartCom, Crosstalk,
PC-Talk, and some others and the "=X" could be dropped. I finally settled on
Qmodem and by then I had a 1200 baud modem. I remember in our net we were
worried about the CRC errors which could occur at that speed. Look at us now.

HG> It won't be free of course if I have to buy a modern machine
    HG> though.

I know mine wasn't, but I like to buy the parts separately and put them
together myself. Less expensive that way.

RN> And if you have to buy W10, the Home version is $119.99 and the Pro
   RN> version is $199.99. I don't like psychological pricing.

HG> And to that has to be addad a more modern computer to be able to
    HG> install that.

Makes one wonder when enough is going to be enough. I don't think it ever
   will be.

    HG> Have a nice day,

   You too.

   Regards,

   Roger
