30 Jun 15 21:11, you wrote to me:               EV>> This is an old message I'm using to write this reply to You.               ml>> i remember it...               EV> Did remembering it cause You to get nightmares?              hahaha... nah...              [...]               ml>> my PATA and SATA systems appear to show all connections when        ml>> booting up... only those with drives attached get a name or ID        ml>> printed beside them... the others may say something about "not        ml>> connected" or "not ready"... really nothing to be concerned        ml>> with as far as i can see ;)               EV> Long time ago I thought the HDD in this XP box was IDE because I would        EV> see a line on the screen when I turned the box On that said something        EV> about checking IDE Drives.               EV> A moment after that line shows up I see several lines flash on the        EV> screen only for a instant and then the SCSI Adapter gets initialized.               EV> It was a long time before I learned that those lines I saw for only a        EV> moment was where the pc was reporting what SATA connections it saw.              PATA (old style) and SATA (new style) are both IDE... IDE stands for       Integrated Device Electronics which simply means that instead of having a       separate controller card taking a slot like we had with MFM and RLL drives,       the controller card is built on the HD combining the HD's interface board and       the controller card into one... then a cable goes from the drive to connect to       an interface card in a slot... now days that interface card is built onto the       motherboard which frees up a slot... the difference between PATA and SATA is       that PATA is parallel and transfers the bits making the bytes of data all at       the same time... SATA is serial and streams the bits in a single line...       parallel is faster but takes more work to happen... serial is easier since the       stream of bytes don't need to be split into channels... especially so since       the data is read in serial fashion from the drive platters anyway...               EV> Thanks Again!               EV> P.S. I was looking around Waldo's Place BBS a few days ago and learned        EV> that the W in wkitty meant 'White'.              actually, the name of the bbs has the first name in it... granted, the avatar       is a white cat on a black background but the bbs is named for the moniker ;)              )\/(ark              ...
