EV> At first I had a USB2 wire between the UPS and XP box to use the       EV> Tripp Lite PowerAlert software, but after having problems every time I       EV> clicked on the Help tab and it not working I unplugged the wire.       EV>        EV> When clicking on Help for the UPS, Firefox would open 2 tabs, the first       EV> tab never connected and the second tab went to www.files.com and seeing       EV> WOT gave that web site a bad rating added to my decision to not use the       EV> software.       EV>        EV> Tripp Lite Tech Support told me it needed Java enabled too.       EV> I wasn't using Java because I've read Oracle was having problems with       EV> it back then and had uninstalled Java on the XP box.              Yes, that software is not that great at all. Just the fact it uses Java is a       good enough reason to avoid it.              I use the SNMP Network Management cards that slide into the slot in the back       of the APC SmartUPS-1000 or 1500 units. I bought a bunch of them on Ebay for       $20 each.               You can then web browse into the settings. You can also use SNMP Management       software to monitor them if you wanted to. I do exactly that, but realize       that isn't necessary for most people.              - Mark              --- WWIVToss v.1.51         * Origin: http://www.weather-station.org * Bel Air, MD -USA (1:261/1304.0)    |
