   Howdy! Daryl,

EV>Windows is so finnicy(sp?) that I rather have the monitor powered by
EV>the UPS if the black out lasts long and the beeping continues until
    EV>everything is shut down.

    DS> It's finicky...think of a cat and its food.

You mentioned "Cats" and it made me remember a small Dog that wants
its owner to hold up the water dish when it wants to get a drink.

When we are at that house the dog will stare at me or my wife wanting
either of us to pick up the water bowl for it to get a drink.

EV>I boxed up my CRT Monitor when I bought a LCD Monitor.
EV>I'm not sure but think the newer one doesn't grab much power.

DS> I think my power settings are 2 minutes for the screen saver

DS> the monitor turns itself off.

When I have my computer ON everything is ON.
   Screen Saver isn't used here.
I do enter a Log On password each time I BOOT UP the box.

EV>A thought just came to my mind - during a power black out do You, or
EV>Anyone else reading this, NOT turn their UPS OFF so the beeping stops?

DS> There may be a setting with software with the UPS's, or with
DS> the device itself, where you can disable those beeps. However,
DS> if it looks like power will be off for an extended period, I
    DS> just power everything down...and take a nap...although I gave
DS> up on the idea of "beauty sleep" long ago. :P

There is a button on my UPS with a drawing of a Speaker with a / mark
   through it.

I can't remember whenever the power has failed if I've pressed that
button to stop the noise if the blackout lasted over a few seconds.
I'll try to remember that button is on there the next time the beeping
starts up, to see if that will shut it up.
