SO perhaps they should never be turned off either??              I never turn off any of my desktops or servers unless there is a hardware       failure or an extended power failure. I have left my BBS machine(s) on for       years on end without any problems. While newer hardware isn't so sensitive,       every time you turn on a computer, there is a small power surge into the       system (it's not directly damaging). Then there's the moving parts having       to start back up again and spin up to speed.              Kim Komando has a great article you might want to look at:              http://www.komando.com/tips/11929/should-you-shut-down-your-computer-at-night/a       ll              (That's supposed to be on a single line if it wraps...)              Personally, I like leaving my computers on all the time. The BBS server,       obviously, has to be on 24/7, but my personal computer stays on just because       I use it to monitor the BBS and when I'm not using it, my BOINC client fires       up and grinds away for several projects.              If you don't know what BOINC is, you might be interested in it...              https://boinc.berkeley.edu/              --Sean              ... I'm so hungry I could eat a vegetable.       --- MultiMail/Linux        * Origin: Outpost BBS * Johnson City, TN, USA (1:18/200)    |
