In a message dated 05-26-15, Ed Vance said to Mark Lewis:              GA Ed,              EV> I watch the screen when I turn the xp box on.              EV> I panic when I see an extra SCSI device number in the start up list       EV> and hold the power button until the lights go out, then I turn it on       EV> again.              Why do you panic?              EV> What I see is like this:              EV> 0 SyQuest drive       EV> 1       EV> 7 Adapter Card              EV> I see this extra device number show up once a week at least, when       EV> the xp box is turned on.              Does that extra drive displayed do any harm if you let the machine boot       with that number displayed?              What I find odd is that the SyQuest drive is shown as #0. Usually drive       0 is the boot drive and in a mixed IDE / SCSI setup that is always C: on       an IDE drive.              EV> I can't recall what name is shown along side #1.              That would be important.              EV> Is there any place on the internet that You can give me to learn       EV> about SCSI stuff?              EV> Off the top of my head I think the Adapter is made by Advance.              Maybe the name is Adaptec. I've never heard of SCSI drivers made by       Advance. When you buy an Adaptec SCSI controller you also receive three       books describing various drivers and uses but I don't recall that there       is any SCSI tutorial.              I know that the SCSI controller you have is a very simple one intended       just for a SyQuest drive, not a general purpose controller.              OTOH, I suppose you don't need a tutorial to use IDE controllers for       your HDDs.                     CU L8ER, Sam, OH0NC              aka Holger              ---        þ MR/2 2.30 þ Age and cunning will always overcome youth and skill.        * Origin: Coming to you from the Sunny Aland Islands.
