   Howdy! Daryl,

EV>That set up works O.K. when the computer has a connection to a Router
EV>on DSL or Broadband, or close to a Free Wi-Fi outlet.

EV>No Router or free Wi-Fi nearby, no Ham Radio Operating ._._._

DS> I normally am hooked up with Comcast High Speed
DS> Internet...but have a Verizon Mi-Fi card for emergency or
    DS> portable use.

I never heard of Mi-Fi so I looked it up on eHow and Wikipedia to learn
   some about it.

Mi-Fi sends and receives its data on Cellular Phone frequencies.

I've seen advertisements from NetZero about a item that may use the
   same technique.

I went to NetZero to learn some about it and iirc it uses either USB or
Cat-5 Wireing to connect it to the computer.

I've seen a Cricket USB stick used to get on the internet.
I guess they're all using the same method to get connected to the
   internet via Cell Phone frequencies.

EV>IIRC hadn't I read that You also did a Ham Radio Demostration at a Park
    EV>one time?
EV>You sure had to be piggy backing on someone elses internet connection
    EV>for that Demo.

DS> Actually, no piggybacking at all. I had my Verizon Wi-Fi
DS> card, that I used for it. My Mom has one as well, and sometimes
DS> I'll use both of them...charging one, while using the other
    DS> one. But, it's rare I do a demo...especially outside...anymore.
DS> This time of year, the stinging insects (wasps, hornets, bees,
DS> yellow jackets, etc.) are in abundance, and I am allergic to
    DS> them.

This time You wrote "Version Wi-Fi card" instead of Mi-Fi.

At the park did You use a Notebook or Desktop pc?

The word "card" made me think You were using a Desktop pc because afaik
the only "card" a Laptop/Notebook can take is a SODIMM memory module.

I'm confused enuf, don't confuse me more, especially in a public area
such as Memorylane is. .... ..

First I learn about a new thing called "Mi-Fi" from You, next I'm
thinking that You used a Desktop pc in the park. DUH!
