(Continued from previous message)              I had considered "The Wall Cloud BBS", but one of my first users       had suggested "The Thunderbolt BBS". I liked it so much, that "it       stuck"...and her son provided the opening ANSI screen lightning bolts.       While they are on Facebook, they no longer do BBSing.              HG>During the past year usage has diminished to an alarming degree,       HG>especially by hams that stopped by to read or dwnld the weekly ARRL DX       HG>and propagation bulletins. When they arrive here they are too old to       HG>have any meaning for the actual period.               I download the bulletins manually via email, and post them into the       ham radio areas here, via a message utility. But, as you noted...by       the time they're posted, many are out of date.               I thought my BBS was the last one in Arkansas, but I saw in one of the       Sunrise Doors InterBBS games of a user whose system was in Arkansas. So,       I have to find out where that one is located. Yet, unlike when I first       started with dial-up only, the BBS (one of the few hobbies I can still       do), is telnet and web only. Even if I'm the only logon, I still enjoy       interacting with the message bases, adding to the file areas (especially       some of the bizarre stuff I see on Facebook), and playing the doorgames.               Ironically, my late wife was a great winner, but was a sore       loser...especially in the door games on the BBS. Just before I proposed       to her, I said "I'm ahead of you in these games", and I thought to       myself "that means none for me tonight". To which, she said "you know       that means none for you tonight!!". I thought "Gad!! She's reading my       mind!!". LOL               Anyway, since it's now our Tornado Season, the BBS tends to be       offline more than online, due to the increasing occurrence of       thunderstorms. The port sniffers won't be happy about the downtime, but       they never logon, anyway.              HG>Ditto and to boot I have now a free ride at the health care center and       HG>hospital for the rest of the year.               I'm going in for an MRI of my neck on Thursday, and an EMG (electric       nerve conductivity test) on St. Patrick's Day...and I will be GREEN       afterwards, from all the "torturous acupuncture". But, if they can rule       out neck surgery and paralysis, then I can look to schedule outpatient       prostate surgery. While not cancerous, the enlarged prostate (which I've       had for 15 years), has really become a nuisance. However, the urologist       doesn't want to do the prostate surgery, unless he sees that neck       surgery isn't an issue.               So much for not having a large amount of medical bills this year. :P              Daryl, WX1DER              ---        þ OLX 1.53 þ According to the Weather Channel, Hell just froze over.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     --- Virtual Advanced Ver 2 for DOS         * Origin: The Thunderbolt BBS (1:19/33)    |
