   * An ongoing debate between Ed Vance and Ben Ritchey rages on ...

BR>> When I need a static IP address for a local node I use the
BR>> Router config to set up DHCP Reservation for that node. Select
BR>> it when it's set CORRECTLY and Reserve it that way. Works for

EV> would talk it over with a DSL Technician at AT&T.

I would think he would recommend the same thing I did {chuckle} or at least
confirm it's an easy and reliable way to handle it. :)

EV> I'm a little puzzled about Your last line:
EV> "(matches IP to MAC address)" .
EV> I know the computers I have each have a MAC address, but iirc the MAC
EV> address doesn't look anything like a IP Address.

It simply means when DHCP assigns that MAC an IP it's matched to whatever you
reserve for it, or "Static" per se. i.e. MAC A:B:C:D set to 192.168.1.nnn

EV> I just looked at ipconfig /all on this pc and iirc the Physical
EV> Address shown is the MAC address, right????????

   Sounds right :)

EV> I can't remember the name right now, but remember reading about that
EV> in a Kim Komando newsletter some time ago.

   Sounds like a Proxy server or something {shrug}

EV> I don't know what "Guardien Fide" means, is it "Be Careful"?

It loosely translates to "Keeper of the Faith"
