Google Analytics is used by websites to analyze traffic - in my case mostly to       satisfy my curiosity, in other cases to find the most effective designs. For       instance, a charity might test two different photos to see which results in       more donations. (Or a business might want to see which design generates more       sales).              You may be thinking of Google AdWords - most of the pages at zisman.ca (for       instance) include a banner ad at the bottom of the page - automatically       generated by a bit of javascript (and presumably more or less related to the       page content). I get a little bit of money if anyone clicks on the ad; running       the ads brings in about $150/yr to me.              Since I suspect you wouldn't click on the ads in any case, it hardly matters       to me whether you run NoScript or not.              HOWEVER virtually every modern web page uses Javascript these days for all       sorts of things - menu items that drop down when your mouse hovers over them       for instance. Anything that routinely disables Javascript can have all sorts       of unanticipated effects. (My pages are pretty low-tech in those regards).              On 2014-12-05, 8:17 PM, Ed Vance -> Alan Zisman wrote:        EV> Alan,               EV> You mentioned some time ago that when I visit Your Web Pages I should        EV> tell NoScript to Allow Google Analytics because it lets You recieve        EV> a bit of money.               EV> My habit is to Temporary Allow things in NoScript, You know how I think        EV> I can Control what this computer does. :-)               EV> Should having NoScript Allow Google Analytics for every web site that        EV> uses it be a good idea?               EV> Google' apis(?) gets asked to be allowed all the time too, what about        EV> always allowing it?               EV> It seems like most every web site I go to uses Google settings to get        EV> a web page to display properly.               EV> I am not a Google user and I've always thought I ought to limit Google        EV> Anything from running on any of my computers.        EV> It even erks me to allow Google Maps, but I do when I want to see where        EV> some place is located.               EV> Anybody else feel free to comment on my convoluted methods, please.        EV> Thanks!                     --- Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:17.0) Gecko/20130620 Thund        * Origin: Fidonet Via Newsreader - http://www.easternstar.info (1:123/789.0)    |
