In a message dated 10-28-14, Paul Quinn said to Holger Granholm:              Hi Paul,              PQ> (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Coast_600).              PQ> When you get connected to the 'net 24/7 you'll get to like the Wiki,       PQ> and Google. :)              Yes, I can find out about every single race/rally, not only the Gold       Coast 600.               HG> Well, that was what I knew until you wrote about 'second half'.              PQ> It turns out that there's 2x 102 lap race days, counted at 300kms       PQ> each even though the track is 2.96kms, So, a total of 204 laps       PQ> gives us the 600kms. Ooh, that's slightly more but it is called the       PQ> 600 after all.              So far I've seen "400 and 500" races that have been divided into two       races. The "Bathurst 1000" was the first single race with driver changes       during the race and now the "G_C 600" was the second. Apparently there's       a number of kilometres that one driver is allowed to drive alone.              Yesterday Motors TV replayed both Gold Coast races at 2h 10m each and       today that's followed up with "Highlights" from both heats at a total of       2h 35m. I prefer the "full story" where they leave out the safety car       laps and ads.               HG> they show the Otago International Rally which I suppose also is run in        HG> Australia.              PQ> The Otago rally carnival is run in Dunedin New Zealand       PQ> (www.otagorally.net/). The name sounded South African or Japanese       PQ> to me.              Thanks for that information. Actually don't look/see every motor program       on the tele but I do check what is going on and what's coming next day.       The only program I see in full is the "V8 Supercars".              I don't like the european methods of trying to equalize all cars by       using air restrictors, ballasts or even unitized chassis/engines with       bodywork to look like different manufacturers models.              When I raced you had to tune the car/engine to be successful in your       class. If that didn't bring success you had to replace the car to       another manufacture or move up or down to another class. The classes       were divided by engine capacity and the tuning allowed of the engine and       car.              PQ> That Quit Targa rally looks real interesting! The first bitumen       PQ> rally that I've seen that has an actual 'speed bump' hazard!       PQ> (www.targawest.com.au/). I played a video on YouTube from 2011.       PQ> Whee!              Yes it looked interesting, especially one cars antiques at a bend when       it slid against a fence and you could hear each separate plank hammering       against the side of the car.              CU AGN,              Holger              ---        þ MR/2 2.30 þ I have a serious problem .. I keep talking to myself...;-)               * Origin: Coming to you from the Sunny Aland Islands. (2:20/228)    |
