Holger,              HG>AZ> A smartphone lets me always be reachable by email.              HG>That is one thing I have always wanted to avoid.               The email I have set up on my Smartphone (I'm with Straight Talk,       available at Wal-Mart...best priced plan I've ever had), is the one I       use for D-Rats (a ham radio application, for the non-hams). It wouldn't       let me use my regular GMail account...I guess because it had too much       data with it.               But, I did use my laptop computer (with Vista on it, that I had bought       at the Monroe, Louisiana hamfest awhile back for $100) at a demo for the       Harmony Grove, Arkansas High School Ham Radio Club, to show them       that...and now, I know how to send a text message via ham radio to ones       cellphone.               The guy selling that laptop wanted $150 for it (it had belonged to his       granddaughter, who didn't want it anymore), but when I truthfully told       him that all I had was $100, he sold it to me!! :) I had purchased it,       as the original Dell Latitude D610 laptop battery "bought the farm"...so       now, it's AC power only...as the battery is long since obsolete.               Lew Maxwell, KB5HPT, in El Paso, Texas...had his grandson in his       "shack", wondering what Grandpa did with all that equipment. As Lew told       it, his grandson wasn't impressed at all...that is, until Lew sent a       text to his grandson's cellphone. His eyes got as big as dollars!! Then,       Grandpa told him he could reply back...he did, saw it, and was       amazed...and possibly interested!!               I'll use that now at future demos. :)              Daryl, WX1DER       ---        þ OLX 1.53 þ I drive way too fast to worry about cholesterol.                                                                                                                                      --- Virtual Advanced Ver 2 for DOS         * ORIGIN: The Thunderbolt BBS - wx1der.dyndns.org (1:19/33)    |
