   BTW, I came to think about cheers vs. cheerio.   
      
   Here in Europe the english talking are saying 'cheers' when they lift   
   their glas of vodka. In some cases also when they want to take a sip   
   of vine or even beer.   
      
   That may be the reason they don't use it as a farewell phrase.
