In my normal XP Limited Users Account I noticed Internet Explorer (IE)       had a McAfee Search Program on the Search Bar and didn't like it being       the default selection, or for that matter I didn't want it on my PC at       all since I had problems a long time ago when I used McAfee for       Antivirus and since have deleted it (I Thought).              I was able to get another Search Engine in its place and Removed the       McAfee Search from the listing.              Then, I made sure that IE in all three of the users accounts I've made       had the Search Engine that I wanted, not what Microsoft thought was       desirable.              I wanted to see what the default Search program was in IE in SM (Safe       Mode), but before I started SM I unhooked the LAN wire from the XP PC       going to the Router.       I did this to try keeping something unwanted from getting into my PC       while I was in the Admin Account in SM, remember I'm paranoid.              I started SM and selected the top selection, SM Only, no networking.              I started the Admin Account and double clicked on IE.              I noticed the Home Page I set up for IE hadn't appeared on the screen.       It was still trying to load the page but it wasn't showing up yet.              I went ahead and tried to change the Search selection but the listing       didn't appear. I couldn't do anything! and then I thougth I needed to       have Networking working in SM to do that. DUH!              I ReStarted the computer and selected SM WITH Networks and tried again       but still nothing happened, the Home Page didn't appear and I still       couldn't get the list of other Search Engines either.              I looked at Network Settings and it looked O.K., so I went to a CMD       Prompt and tried PING and TRACERT on a few URL's and that worked fine.              I'm puzzled about this.              I believe I wrote something about not seeing any network thing       happening when in a GUI in SM, such as, when I tried updating       antivirus, but maybe I didn't write anything before, can't remember,       It was some months ago the last time I had the XP box in SM.              I'll have to look back through my logs to see if I have any messages       about not having network access when running a GUI Program, but I       thought to go ahead and write about this to see if others know why I'm       seeing this while I'm using SM. Thanks in advance!              ... Money can't buy happiness, but I'd like to find that out personally.       --- MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.49       --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux        * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1)    |
