Hi Paul,

I just want to tell you that life goes on here.

Last thursday was a day with rain and thunder so I took that as an
excuse for not doing my daily scandinavian walking.

Instead I removed the Nakamichi 5-disk changer from the old BBS machine
and mounted it into the office machine that earlier had lost a similar
drive to the new BBS machine.

The mechanical removal and installation went as programmed but then I
had to wait for the next day (sunshine) before I could fit the SCSI
connector to the drive because it was too dark behind the office desk
and I couldn't do it with a flashlight in one hand and I refused start
   moving lamps around .

The machine is a floor-standing 64 cm high tower but it's hard to
believe how cramped it can be. All external drives are mounted at the
top, beginning with a Teac combo 5.25/3.5" floppy/disk drive that I've
made switchable to be A: in either case, a 3.5" disk drive, the 5-disk
Nakamichi and a 500 Mb tape drive.

Below those are two internal hard disks. Except the floppy/disk drives
all other drives run on a SCSI bus.

I did also disconnect the blower behind the external drives because the
machine was so noisy that I have avoided to use it. I couldn't imagine
that it could get so quiet as it is now. Apparently that blower was the
culprit of the noise. Still left are of course the PS and CPU blowers.

Today I let the machine run for an extended period and there were no
signs of high temperatures. Anyway, it usually doesn't run long hours.

Our hot (!) summer is coming to an end. From up to 30+ø C the tempera-
ture has gone down about 5ø and for next week the forecast is for 20ø
   which is much more comfortable.

Also I want to tell you that following the V8 Supercars series on Motors
TV improves my knowledge of Australia just like amateur radio does.

When I see a race the logo shows the name of the race, the last one was
the "Ipswich 400". I know where Ipswich in England is but didn't know
where in Australia the same named place was so I pulled out my World
Atlas and located it. I've done the same for all the other races in that
series. Sometimes though the logo only tells the name of the track so it
can be a bit difficult to find out where that is. It's happened once.

   Have a nice winter.

   Holger
