Mike,       -snip-        EV> At the Lock, when the Diesel Generator was being used, and the Lamp        EV> on the Control Panel showed Line Power was restored AND the lamps for        EV> the 440V 3 Phase Motors on the Hydraulic Pumps were off, I would swing        EV> the A.C. Power Switch on the Panel from Generator Power to Line Power.               ML> Another little bit here, grin. Three phase roller motors are        ML> more of an issue if that is what you are switching. Is that        ML> what an 'Off Ice' is really all about, grin? How you reaally        ML> move forward? Which I suspect most bossies really don't know        ML> anything about like you do Ed? :)              'Off Ice',???, I don't know what that means.              Much Later:I was thinking about this and figured You were talking about       a Office, as in a Telephone Exchange Office???, Switching Office???              You Got Me on that one!              There's always something or someone to keep me humble, and today it is       YOU! Thanks.              What I was trying to write is that IF the Hydraulic Pumps were in       operation, I would wait until they were turned OFF before switching       over to Line Power.       Then I would shut down the Generator, of course.              Even though I'm not in my Right Mind (being Left Handed), I would never       Switch Over to Line Power with those Pumps Running.              BTW, The noise those 3 Phase 440V Motors on the Hydraulic Pumps made       was Louder than the noise from the Diesel Motor that ran the Generator.              Because I was interested in Electronics and beginning to learn 74XX IC       Logic, I tried helping the Electrician that asked for my help.              Along the way I did gather a bit of Electrician knowledge, enuf to help       keep the Remote Control System for the Dam Sites running until the       system was changed to using a 486 pc to control the Dam Gates.              Which reminded me of another 'work' story:              A electrician from another section got a transfer to replace the       electrician who retired.       He was savvy with GUI computers, but wasn't afraid of MS-DOS.              When the new Computer at the Lock received a Software Update, the       electrician would have to go to the Dam to put the update on the       computer that was there by taking a laptop with a copy of the updated       program.              He made a .ZIP copy of the new program running on the computer using a       floppy disk (IIRC) and copied that on to the laptop.              He couldn't get the program to work when he UnZiped it on the computer       at the Dam site.              When he came back to the Lock and told me about it wouldn't work,       I looked at the DIR listing of the Program on the computer at the Lock       and noticed there was a Sub-Directory in the list.              IIRC, I told him to use the -rP option with the PKZIP program when he       made another .ZIP file on the floppy, and copy that to the laptop, and       when he got to the Dam site, use the -d option with PKUNZIP.              He did that and it worked for him when he went back to the Dam and       tried UnZiping it.               EV> The Lights and Marine Radio and the 386 pc would come back on after I        EV> had switch back to Line Power.               EV> Probably the pc they use now would have to have the Power Button        EV> pressed because it might not be on a UPS.               EV> I don't know, maybe the powers that be have ordered UPS's for the pc's        EV> where I retired from. ???               ML> Less of a problem way back then because before we went to        ML> switching type power supplies. all of the receivers,        ML> transmitters, TV sets and so on had pig iron tranformer power        ML> supplies in them.              And a Toggle Switch too!, instead of a Push Button Switch.       -snip-        ML> Plus .. where are we all going with NANO TECHNOLOGY in the        ML> future? And what will be argued, I suspect, as should have        ML> been probably spelled NONO TECHNOLLOGY.              Regular Top and Bottom Printed Circuits I can handle but I ain't gonna       touch something with hidden Printed Circuits inside the Phenolic Board.       No Way!              And I haven't tried soldering Surface Mounted Components either, yet.       --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux        * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1)    |
