|    USB boot    |

Greetings TOM!                      RW> BR>> I recently upgraded to USB 3.0 which works great once Wins 7 Pro        RW> BR>> is running, but the BIOS won't recognize the USB 3.0 drives as        RW> BR>> bootable. I have an Intel DH55HC Mobo with the latest BIOS        RW> BR>> update. Doc's at Intel say USB 3.0 is supported at the BIOS        RW> BR>> level ... one note says to enable the xHCI bit but I don't have        RW> BR>> that option in the BIOS setup :( The USB 3.0 hardware is        RW> BR>> provided by a PCIe card. When I had a SATA port card in that        RW> BR>> slot it booted fine.               RW> BR>> Anyone else booting from USB 3.0 drives?               RW>> I'm still stuck with v1.0 USB ports...but, I did buy a PNY 8gb        RW>> memory stick that came with instrucions on using it to boot a        RW>> system. I may have to review that procedure and see if it's        RW>> plausable to do on v1.0 USBs.               TW> I would not expect any problems as the only difference is the Speed        TW> capabilites. It would jsut boot slower.              That's what I figured.               TW> I have a couple of Boot flaxh drives that I have installed LUNIX for        TW> testing on. I had the best luck with Puppy Linux but LINUX is not for        TW> me.                     Heh. I have 3 linux CDs and I wouldn't want to be stuck with any of those       three as an OS...my 1st one was Red Hat v5.2 - I used it for a while, but       got too frustrated with it crashing all the time, I reformatted the drive       it was on and went back to W98. Then I got Lindows, v4.5 and it was better       than Red Hat and even worked like Windows, but it also got to be a pain to       use, so again I went back to W98. Then came Knoppix 3.2...what a mess that       was and so I upgraded W98 to W2k and lived happily ever after until I       finally installed XP.               TW> To many tines you are forces into a convoluted command line        TW> proceidure to make somethign work.              That was OS/2 for me. OS/2 seemed simple enough on paper, but it drove me       crazy trying to learn its command lines, which resembled DOS commands, but       were so convaluted, I gave up on it.                      Have a day!               R\%/itt - K5RXT              --- GoldED+/W32 1.1.5-31012       --- D'Bridge 3.99        * Origin: South-Texas Area Hub - Gulf Coast Backbone (1:387/22)    |
