Greetings Ed!               RW>> I'm not sure that NTFS files can be copied to a FAT32 system.               EV>>> Probably, if I used a 64-bit OS, but everything here has 32-bit,        EV>>> 16-bit and 8-bit OS's. The new Ext. Drive being NTFS was        EV>>> unexpected, as it wasn't mentioned in the description on the case.               RW>>> That's ok. It will work with any Windoz version newer than W98.        RW>>> I began to use NTFS when I installed W2k...               EV>> I didn't know W98 could read NTFS drives, I've always used FAT.        EV>> -snip-               RW>> It won't. NTFS came as an option with W2k...               EV> When I wrote my sentence about W98/NTFS I was think 'newer than W98'        EV> meant W98SE, that was what I was thinking was newer than W98, I        EV> wasn't thinking of W2000, I was thinking of things like W98SE and WME        EV> were what you meant, I've never seen a W2000 PC but I have had my        EV> hands on W98SE and WME and thought both of them were fine OS's        EV> contrary to what others had written about WME.              IMO, there are good things and bad about 98SE and WME...I had installed       W98SE over W95 couple hundred years ago. I was glad to get away from both       of those when I went straight to W2k...               EV> I even adjusted to Vista Home Basic asking me if I was sure I wanted        EV> to do what I told the computer to do.              I hate that thing. If I had time for it, I'd look for a workaround to get       rid of it.               EV> I've also got to liking the UAC staying on guard looking at what I        EV> can't see happening on the computer.               EV> I didn't like it at first, but learned when I wanted to use a        EV> program, Run As Adminintrator is easier to use with a Vista Standard        EV> Users Account than what I have to do with XP to allow the Limited        EV> Users Account to do things "I" want to allow.              There are only two users on this computer, me and the Administrator. I'm       also the Administrator.               RW>>>> I began to use NTFS when I first started using W2k...it will do        RW>>>> backups to a safe place all on its own.               EV>> Didn't know XP could do that, the C:\ partition is NTFS but the        EV>> small        EV>> D:\ partition is FAT32.               RW>> ????               EV> I meant, I never knew the NTFS C:\ drive could 'backups to a safe        EV> place all on its own.', I never heard of that B4, but MS may had        EV> dropped that Feature in the designing stages of making the XP OS.              It isn't so much the OS that does that, it is the NT Filing System doing       it.               EV>> I've always used True Image for backups on the XP box.        EV>> On the 486 I used a backup program that came with the SyQuest EZ-135        EV>> Parallel Port External HDD.               RW>> I've always used one version or another of Partition Magic to        RW>> make HDs NTFS, rather than FAT/FAT32. I think the last version        RW>> I used was v8.0 but I started using it around v5.0 or so.               EV> I've heard lots of good praises about Partition Magic, but decided to        EV> go the Acronis route when I heard good praises for True Image also.              I was given PM v5.0 a long time ago. Then I was given v8.0 a short time       later. What's nice about it is that if you need more room on one of your       partitioned drives, you can run PM and make it any size you need.               EV>> I made Duplicate 5 1/4 Floppy Disks for the Commodore 64.        EV>> After I got a 3 1/2 Floppy Drive for the C=64 I File Copied lots of        EV>> files from 5 1/4 disks to 3 1/2 disks.               RW>> LOL! Glad that I got rid of that ancient computer stuff long        RW>> ago. In fact, I sold my Wildcat BBS system files on Ebay. There        RW>> were all kinds of old 16 bit door games and DOS programs on the        RW>> 100+ 5 1/4 floppies, all c1991.               EV> Glad I gave you a laugh, my friends have always found something about        EV> me to laugh at, sometimes I join in with them and laugh at myself        EV> too, Why Not?              I wasn't laughing at you as much as I was laughing over the fact that       somebody paid me good money for ancient software that was worthless.               EV> I told someone yesterday I'm not a Geek or a Nerd, I'm just above the        EV> Kindergarten level with my knowledge of computers.              Same here, although I've been asked to fix them, open them after somebody       put a password on their system that was required to get past the boot       sequence, etc.. One person used the XXX rated files on her husband's       system to get her way in a divorce. I wasn't very happy about that, but he       did have some porn on it that bordered on child porn.               Have a day!               R\%/itt - K5RXT              --- GoldED+/W32 1.1.5-31012       --- D'Bridge 3.99        * Origin: South-Texas Area Hub - Gulf Coast Backbone (1:387/22)    |
