Greetings TOM!                      RW>> I have partitioned my 300gbte HDD into 5 sections. C:, D:, E:, F:        RW>> and        RW>> G:...The only 'bootable' partition is the C: drive and the D: drive        RW>> is the system backup...E: is used for DOS apps and Fidonet only,        RW>> while F: and G: have files, JPGs and programs that I don't want on        RW>> the OS drive,        RW>> C:...               TW> that can be a disaster if the Hard Drive itale3f dies.              They seldom do. I've had OS's go belly up or be contaminated with virus'       and I was still able to access the drive, scan it for virus' and repair       it if need be. If the OS goes belly up, it can be repaired as long as the       boot sectors aren't damaged beyond repair. If the entire drive dies,       like bearings or a flying read/writer goes bad, yeah that would be a       problem drive to access and repair.               TW> I coasted along with a multipartition system until I had the Dhard        TW> drive take a sdump. Now I use a seperate hard drive for the backup        TW> and another one for the "Clone" of the boot Drive              I suppose that's good practice, but a HDD will give you clues as to its       deterorating condition before it actually stops working.               RW> TW>> Internal Flash Drive, the usb card I installed also had an        RW> TW>> interanl USB port on it               RW>> That's cool. I just bought a PNY 8g flashdrive and it has a feature        RW>> that will allow a bootable system to be installed on it. I've been        RW>> wanting to do that for ages. Then you don't have to have an OS on        RW>> your desktop, just plugin the flashdrive.               TW> I played with a bootable Puppy Linux USB Flash Drive for a while.        TW> Worked pretty good except printer drivers can be a problem when        TW> moving from machine to machine.              Well, my printer is on the network router and drivers for it can be       installed in everything that has a need to print something.               TW> What is even nicer is portable applications on a Flash Drive when        TW> borrowing someone elses Computer.              My first experience with that is a password keeper program called       Roboform. It is no longer compatible with Firefox, but still works like a       champ in IE...I do access it in the tray on this desktop, as one can bring       up a user name-password for any site in there and copy and paste it if you       have to...                      Have a day!               R\%/itt - K5RXT                                                 --- GoldED+/W32 1.1.5-31012       --- D'Bridge 3.99        * Origin: South-Texas Area Hub - Gulf Coast Backbone (1:387/22)    |
