   Hi! Holger,

On Wed, 18 Dec 13, you wrote to me:

PQ>> It's a good thing that it's the only language that I have to know. :)

HG> For me it's quite easy to learn languages so I'm happy to read/write
HG> swedish, english, german and finnish. I was lucky to learn finnish as
HG> a kid since it's a very difficult language to learn by grammar or
    HG> after one has become a teen-ager.

It was deemed by my high school staff that I didn't have the required smarts
to learn any other languages. My failings in English must have been a clue.
:) I did enjoy both Latin & French but I was always doing 'translation' into
every day street talk in English, and not the required verbatim textbook
style... which bored me to tears. My teachers never realised this, and never
pulled me up for it. The groundwork in those languages has been a life-long
   bonus.

I've picked up a few simple words & phrases in other languages since school.
Just enough to compare similarities but not enough to carry out any
conversations. I enjoy learning snippets of languages to this day.

Have you ever considered pulling-in the ENGLISH_TUTOR echo? We're having lots
of fun with some young Russian fellas there, helping with their yearning to
learn to use English more effectively.

HG> In a way I'm quite lucky because math, algebra and trigonometry also
HG> sat quite well which I have understood is a bit unusual in
    HG> combination with language sensitivity.

Oh, no! Another failing for me was maths. My absolute worst sunject!

   Cheers,
   Paul.
