RW>> It's no bother, it just takes its sweet time getting around to
RW>> allowing your PC to boot.

EV> I'll say AMEN! to that! Brer Roy!,

EV> 'Sweet Time' is the Right word to describe Booting Up a modern
EV> computer, in this day and time.

I'd change that to sweat time...

EV> The Commodore 64 Booted Up before I could take a second breath,
EV> and shut down just as fast, Except maybe for the C= GEOS GUI Prg???.

It had a window type of OS?

EV> I can't remember if it required you to 'wind it down' like all the
EV> MS Windows OSs expected to be done so it could keep its act in order.

You wouldn't be very happy with it if it dumped your pgms out of memory
before it had a chance to save any work you've done.

EV>> I can't remember for sure if Windows 3.x had a Registry or not, I'm
EV>> thinking it didn't, but I'm not for sure about my thoughts.

RW>> I'm not sure anymore either. I haven't used it in 15+ years and
    RW>> glad to report that.

EV> I used it last year before I tried backing up the C: HDD to an
EV> external HDD through the XP box, now the 486 won't boot up.

   Uh Oh...

    EV> ----snip--

EV>> I am not sure enough of myself to go in the Registry and modify it
EV>> on my own, are you?

RW>> Been there, done that. But I'm not willing to tackle that job
RW>> with an OS that takes up nearly all of a 15Ghz drive. Mine has
RW>> only 3 gigs free space left. The rest is XP...

EV> I'm sure somebody already commented to you about your SPEEDY HDD.
    EV> The Ghz/GB typo. This isn't the Ham Radio Echo .... ..

My mind is going. I meant to use Gbyt.

EV>> Thanks for your suggestion, but I'll continue doing as I have been
EV>> doing, and leave the Registry alone.

RW>> I have UNIBLU's registry cleaner that does registry cleaning on
RW>> it's own. I run it every now and then.

EV> I'd just rather not since I have no idea what it might decide to
    EV> change that it shouldn't.

It makes a clean sweep of the registry and removes items that you don't
have a pgm using. Which is why I warned you about installing, removing and
re-installing programs. A registry cleaner will fix anything out of the
   ordinary.

EV> I "think" I remember reading to do a Save To Desktop type procedure
EV> just before doing any changes to the Registry, or something like
EV> that, 'Just In Case' the Registry got corrupted, or power went off,
EV> etc. while doing some editing in it.

Making a backup of the registry before you proceed with making any changes
to it will help you recover from things that go bang in the night. It's
best to keep that backup off of the boot drive.
