Whew!              Spent a fair amount of time configuring machines and installing       software but I now have the ViaSoft Support BBS running full time on one       POTS line and from time to time I'll bring up the second POTS line       which both have USR Courier 56k V.Everything modems. For the most part,       I'll be using the second line for testing.              The board is running on two Dell XPS 500/550 (P3) boxes using 120gb       SSD's (DOS 6.22 only allows me to get to 8gb). The server is       a Dell Dimension 4100 with 512mb memory and runs Novell v3.11 (100 user)       with a pair of 120gb SSD's using 10BaseT (10mb) NICs. All of this is       sitting on APC UPS's just in case.              Of course, ViaMAIL! sits in front of both lines and accepts both human       and mail calls (1:104/57). I've been adding DOS specific files to the       BBS and I'm sitting at over 11,000 files with plenty more to add. The       Registered Product doors won't be available until everything else is       completely working and after I've had a chance to refactor them.              As I'm sure you can tell, I'm trying to remain old school here by being       a purely DOS based BBS with no Telnet capabilities. There's just       something missing with a TelNet connection -- oh yeah, modem tones!       Besides, I'm not real keen on subjecting my web servers/firewalls to       the constant pounding of TelNet script kiddies.              I'm bringing the board back up in support of all the original ViaSoft       products as well as the ones I'm working on to re-release after all       the compilation and doc updates are complete. So look to see a flood of       some 20+ archives in the not-to-distant future. The board will also       serve as a test bed for these programs to ensure they'll work as       expected.              If you have time (and a modem - MagicJack works but not much faster       than 16.8/21.6), give the board a call at 303-953-0568 and say hello.              Regards,              Joe Martin              --- ViaMAIL!/WC v2.00        * Origin: ViaSoft Support BBS - Back online at 303-953-0568 (1:104/57)    |
