   Remembering that the film was made in the 1960s (as also was "Doctor Who   
   and the Daleks" IIRC), I'd have thought that the chance of finding a US   
   distributor for a British film based on a TV show which 99% of Americans   
   would never have heard of was remote. So if they did hope to sell the   
   film to the US I think they were being very optimistic. But I think that   
   it was actually made mainly for a British audience, but one that -   
   rather oddly - was assumed to have little familiarity with the TV show.
