|    Thought on "Day of the Moon"    |
|    30 Apr 11 15:01:42    |
From Newsgroup: rec.arts.drwho.moderated       From Address: solar.penguin@gmail.com       Subject: Thought on "Day of the Moon"              Again, not a review. Just some random thoughts that occurred while I       was watching.              S              P              O              I              L              E              R              .       .       .              S              P              A              C              E              So I was right: Amy's shots at the spaceman didn't have any       significant effect on the plot, and were just a contrived cliffhanger.              I'd like to have seen more of the on-the-run-for-three-months side of       things, which would probably have been more interesting than the       actual plot.              We all know from The Leisure Hive that the Doctor's beard grows much       more slowly than a human's, so 3 months without shaving should just be       enough to give him light designer stubble. Yet another example of the       new series deliberately pissing all over the classic one!              Still, there was a reference to Dwarf Star Alloy to make up for it.       The only trouble is, it didn't make any sense in plot terms! Where       would NASA get that much of it from? Where would NASA get any of it       from? They were only just going to the moon, never mind interstellar       trips to mine dwarf stars!              Good job no-one bumped into the invisible TARDIS while building the       wall. How did it get there anyway?              And last episode we were told invisibility drains the TARDIS's power,       but spending three whole months that way didn't seem to drain it at       all. Yes, the new series is also pissing all over its own continuity       too! No that doesn't make me happy!              What would've happened if one of the other FBI agents had shot Amy and       Rory first?              More proof of River Song's status as a Mary Sue: the others have to go       through the body-bag routine, but she dives off a skyscraper into the       TARDIS swimming pool!              The Silence were on Earth before humans discovered the fire or the       wheel. Could they be related to the Silurians? Their name could even       be a corruption of "Silurians" if you think about it...              Why didn't Amy say "They're hanging on the ceiling," in her recording?              Good job Neil Armstrong waited over a minute before adding "One giant       leap for mankind." (I suppose you might be able to rationalise it by       saying the Doctor could've asked Nixon to order Armstrong to do that.)              What about people listening to the moon landing on the radio? They're       going to remember and be confused by the voice saying "Kill us all on       sight."              Similarly, what about David Holman types recording the TV audio on a       tape recorder? Or anyone who wants to edit or use an audio of sample       of Armstrong's speech for any reason?              And even more proof of River Sue: the oh-so-stylish way she guns down       all those Silence, including that final one standing behind her, which       she shouldn't even remember is there!              I can't bring myself to care about the story arc at all. One Mary Sue       was already bad enough. Whoever the girl is, she'll be one too, and       that's the only thing that matters. (And besides, if there's I hate       more than stories about Sues, it's stories about kids!)              Finally, I couldn't remember the episode title when I came to write       this post. (Maybe there was a Silence standing next to my TV when the       title was on screen?) When I went to the BBC website to find out, it       it was full of images giving away spoilers of next week's episode.       I'd deliberately switched off the TV before the trailer so as not to       see its spoilers, but on the website there wasn't even that choice!       Couldn't they hide all the stuff about next week behind a link, or       something?              --- Synchronet 3.15a-Linux NewsLink 1.92-mlp        * Origin: http://groups.google.com (1:2320/105.97)       --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux        * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1)    |
