      Cold north

      Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 20th November 2025
      Duty forecaster: Dan Graves

Frequent heavy showers around the central Mediterranean with snow
across the Alps and mountains in the east. Drier to the north and
      Iberia though cold.

      Thursday
Frequent showers drifting onto north Spain, falling as sleet or snow on
high ground. Some cloud further south but sunny for Portugal and
southern Spain. Showers for the central Mediterranean islands, these
extending into southern Italy. Drier north but cloudy with snow in the
mountains. Showers along the Balkan coasts becoming increasingly heavy,
particularly heavy in western Greece. Only odd showers in east Greece
and Türkiye with plentiful sun; mild but strong winds through the
      Aegean into the Black Sea.
Patchy wintry precipitation drifts into France, the Low Countries, and
Germany on a breeze from the North Sea. Broader areas of snow will
affect east France, Switzerland and Austria. Some snow and rain into
Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. Patchy snow and rain in Poland though
dry for many under cloud. Some scattered showers in southeast Europe
but most dry with sunny spells.
Strong winds around the Baltic Sea. Snow in southern parts of Sweden
and Finland, some snow drifting north into central Finland. Generally
dry but cloudy in the Baltic States, some snow showers drifting inland
from the coast later. Dry but cloudy in northern Finland and Sweden.
Snow showers drift onto Norway's coasts while inland southern areas
will be largely dry with bright spells, these brighter conditions
      extending into central Sweden.

      Friday
Showers continue to affect north Spain, dry with sun elsewhere in
Iberia. Heavy showers come and go around the central Mediterranean,
including into central and southern Italy. Strong winds are likely as
well. Heavy rain on the coastal Balkans, this rain extending inland in
northern areas, falling as snow on high ground. Heavy rain for west
Greece, dry and sunny to the east and in Türkiye.
A frosty morning from France eastward across the Alps and areas north
into Poland. Some morning patchy snow in north and west France eases
for an increasingly bright day from the north. Most of the continent
north of the Alps will be dry and cloudy, though sun increasingly
pushes in from the north. The Alps themselves will be snowy, this band
of snow extending east through Austria, Slovakia, and southern Poland.
Rain for Hungary with scattered showers southeast towards the Black
      Sea.
Very cold in Scandinavia, likely below freezing all day; bitter cold in
the north. More snow showers into western Norway, becoming persistent
on the southwestern coast later. Showers into Denmark. Sweden will be
dry with sunny spells. Southern Finland and the Baltic States will see
some patchy snow, this tending to fade for a drier evening with sunny
      spells.
