   Hej Nick!

   > You mention it's now on it's own machine..
   > What was it on before?

It was on a low power draw embedded system (Ryzen) and then temporary moved to
a beefier Epyc based server and now back to a low power draw embedded system
(Intel) That's been sitting around for at least a year. I preferred the Ryzen
but at the moment I have no choice if I wish to keep it independent.

   > Do you have some kind of (battery) backup or surge protector in
   > place?

Yes and yes. Also gas generator for the longer outages but that also runs
household appliances such as a fridge. The battery backup only runs the
networked machines and is good for a couple hours. It automagically kicks in
   when the power goes out.

   > Or did the storm just cut the power to it temporarily?

The lightening strike, which was extremely close (10-20ish meters) took down
two of the low power machines I had running. I figure the fault tolerences
were a tad too low for them as the other machines wired into the same grid
never even flinched. The power was out for just under 72 hours which also
took down the wired internet connection so we were out of touch for that
time. The local network had no issues and were already running when the power
   was finally restored.

   Het leven is goed,
