   Hey Jame!

   Here is a general idea of the WeBeBashing ftn-function for an address
   splitting to create input for the pkt_header() function which is currently
   hardcoded but soon to use the split_addresses() function once I do some
   further testing.

    ----- split_addresses begins -----

   split_addresses()
   {
    from_address=( "$(echo "$1" | sed 's/:/ /;s%/% %;s/\./ /')" )
    dest_address=( "$(echo "$2" | sed 's/:/ /;s%/% %;s/\./ /')" )
    echo ${from_address[@]}
    echo ${dest_address[@]}
   }

    ----- split_addresses ends -----

   Here is example usage from the commandline;

   -----------------------------------------------------------------------

   $ source /usr/share/fidonet/functions

   $ split_addresses "1:261/38.9" "1:261/38.0"
   1 261 38 9
   1 261 38 0

   $ echo $from_address
   1 261 38 9

   $ echo $dest_address
   1 261 38 0
   -----------------------------------------------------------------------

   However the above isn't suitable without reassignment using 'shopt -s
   lastpipe' which is currently only available to bash-4.2. There is another
   trick I will try later unless you have a better suggestion. ;-)

   Getting there.

   Life is good,
   Maurice
